Review

Nestled in the beautiful Hampshire countryside is this stunning 36 Acres of woodland and water meadow just to the West of Romsey.  The venue consists of 4 main lakes, that benefit from being spring fed along with an on site fishing lodge with cafe and tackle shop.  The main thing that will strike you when you visit Whinwhistle is how peaceful it is, even though there are over 70 swims you are well spread out from the lower lake to the top lake.  All the facilities you require are at hand, and this venue is ideal for first time anglers, or for that impromptu few hours, or for the angler wishing to pass a few hours sat in beautiful surroundings.

The lakes are stocked to a professional level, with bites being challenging to get - but once you have the fish feeding you will be well away.  For the first time angler you can easily start landing roach within a few hours, and for progressing your angling skills their is friendly paid tuition available from the on site bailiff.

The lakes are split up into different fish stock with Roach, Perch, Bream, Skimmers, Carp, Tench available at this venue - how ever don't expect to be pulling out 30lb - 50lb carp.

Tactics

This venue is managed very well, and the fishing stock is kept at a challenging level.  Fishing fools find that this venue is best attacked using light float rod gear, or poles - leave the Carp rods, buzz bars and barrows at home as they are certainly over kill here.  Fish on a 3lb - 4lb main line with size 16 hooks on the lightest float you can manage for the conditions.  The fish at this venue are generally very cautious, so don't over feed as you will probably end up killing your swim and that of your neighbours.  Natural baits work best at this venue, with the legendary red maggot being devastating for skimmers, roach and perch and the occasional carp.  There are generally no "preferred" swims at this venue, all the swims will have you bagging up on a good day, however for the one's that are fishing better, speak to the bailiff when purchasing your day tickets and he will point you in the right direction.
