plummet-21gSo you've got your float on the line, and a hook on the end - but how do you know at what level to fasten the float ? well the easy answer is to make use of a device called a plummet.

This heavy metal weight, has an eye at one end, and a cork base - the idea is to feed the hook through the eye, and fasten it vertically into the cork on the base - you now have a device that will put the hook to the very bottom !

Now estimate the depth of water and lock the float in position with some shot. Put the plummet on the hook, then cast to the area you intend to fish - Be careful though ! the weight of the plummet is far in excess of the normal float rig, and this means that it needs the smallest of flicks to cast it a "long" distance - don't get over cocky and give the cast some welly, else your probably going to be retrieving your tackle from the opposing banks tree / bushes Tongue out

Once you've cast the plummet, look at how the float sits on the water...

float-to-deep

float-to-shallow

float-just-right

Float is set to deep

move towards hook and

recast

Float is set to shallow

move away from hook and

recast

Float is set just right
