Its been a rather odd summer of fishing this year and we at fishing fools haven't really had the time to get out and fish. There have been a number of trips but one outing does spring to mind.
After receiving a gift of a wooden fly box I though it was time for me to pop over to the lovely Moorhen trout fishery to see if I could finally catch one.
It was a rather cold over cast day and I was really up for the days fishing. After having a cup tea and paying the fee for rod hire I walking over to the lake and scanned the water for movement, it was a rather busy day on the lake so I opted for quiet area of the lake. After a while of casting I started to get into a routine. I changed flies a couple of times and eventually I could see the fish moving around.
at mid day I had had no fish so I decided to have a lunch break and try again later. After being refuelled I took up the fishing challenge in the same place as before, and I noticed that after a few casts the fish would chase the fly but I just could not get the fish to take the fly.
After some friendly advice I moved over to alocation near a tree .
After a few sideways casts I started to see the fish moving around but it was difficult to see them under the tree. I eventually manged to cast to the correct location without hitting the tree stumps. After a few more casts I suddenly saw a fish chase the fly and take it I struck and the rod bent over and I know I was in to a fish.
After a few minutes fight I managed to bring the fish back towards me and finally into the net. It was a rather large rainbow trout and after the official weighing I was given the value of 3lb and 10oz which was great for my first fish.
After a fun day I am now waiting to get down to another trout lake to see if I can catch some more of these great fish.
