There are many different baits for fishing and its never easy to decide what bait to take with you. One fishing day I arrived at the tackle shop and was thinking what bait to purchase. I had planned to use maggot and look for any type of fish. Whilst talking top the guys in the shop the discussion of works came up. I had never looked in to using worms and was a bit sceptical.
As I was fishing a river I decided to go for lob worms, a tub of 10 to be exact. When arrive to the river and getting setup I was ready to open the tub which contain some soil and the worms. After getting one of these little mingers out of the tub I then placed the whole worm on my hook the worm then wriggled and came of the hook. I picked the it up and noticed it had split into two worms. With one of them I pushed it back on the hook and moved it further up the hook shank.
I then cast in to the river and settled the quiver into its rest, after a short while I struck in to a small little roach. The worm was still on the hook so I cast again with the same bait as I was trying to save money here as I wasn't sure how lonhg 10 worms would last. After soe time I pulled my line in and noticed that the worm had gone, most likely from not being hooked very well.
I placed a new worm on the hook and tried to hook it well
, After a short while I struck into another fish an average sized but really good looking green Perch. Every time I re-cast I was connecting to fish nothing large but it was good fun.
After this great trip I have decide to use lob worms much more with my experience I will have to get some thing to hold the worm in place some thing like a small piece of elastic band should do the trick unless you have any ideas, let us know if you do. I will also use a larger worm to target the bigger fish. I do have the question what method will be best using the quiver tip or to trot the worm down with a float may I will try both and let you know whats better.
any way see you soon
