Well December has been quiet month for fishing, with all the festive celebrations and last minute panic buying for Christmas, so not much to report - There was an excursion early December to Whinwhistle, however I can only describe the conditions as bloody freezing, with the fish sluggish in the cold water and a real challenge to catch, not even juicy red maggots could entice the roach to bite - all good fun though

Anyway, I've been absolutely gagging with exciting this year, as I knew Father Christmas had a nice new float rod and reel waiting to be unwrapped - the 25th couldn't come around quick enough for me (was like being a kid again) - So, I'm now the proud owner of a Shakespear Mach 2 Commercial Float road with a balanced Mach 2 front drag reel -
The rod is 13 foot in length with a main line rating of 1.5lb - 8lb's, the reel is "funky" with a front drag clutch (wanted to try one of these out) and 3 spools - needless to say the rod and reel were made-up within 10 minutes of unwrapping, and hastily bundled into the garden for some casting action - The rod feels well made, is surprisingly light, and balances well with the reel - the only issue I can foresee is the extra 3 foot in length compared to my current rod (it really does look unwieldy) will probably result in me getting hooked in low hanging trees, bushes and bivis for the first few sessions
Anyway, I really can't wait to christen this new bit of kit out, will be counting the days until I can next go fishing
